En los últimos años, Sibiu ha obtenido un importante reconocimiento a nivel internacional. Fue Ciudad Europea de la Cultura 2007. Numerosas revistas como, por ejemplo, El Huffington Post, en el año 2014, la incluyeron en la lista que contiene «Las ciudades más encantadoras de Europa que querrá visitar».

In the last years, Sibiu has gained international recognition. It was designated the European Capital of Culture for the year 2007. Many magazines, such as The Huffington Post, in 2014, included it in the list «The most charming cities in Europe that you will want to visit».

La ciudad fue colonizada a mediados del siglo XII por los colonos sajones procedentes del territorio del Rhin-Mosselle. A partir de 1366 la ciudad cambió su nombre a Hermannstadt y después de 1919 el nombre de la ciudad se convirtió en Sibiu. Actualmente, la ciudad recibe estos dos nombres. Hay, por tanto, una gran influencia sajona. Algunos alemanes siguen viviendo aquí. De hecho, en la Piata Mare encontraréis una librería exclusivamente alemana.

The town was settled in the middle of the 12th century by the Saxons from the Rhin-Mosselle. Currently, the city receives two names: Hemannstadt and Sibiu. Therefore, there is a great saxon influence. Some Germans are still living there. In fact, you will find an exclusively german bookstore in Piata Mare.

Sibiu fue una ciudad multiconfesional. Hoy en día, el centro histórico de Sibiu alberga la Catedral Ortodoxa, la Catedral Evangélica, la Iglesia Católica Romana, la Iglesia Greco-Católica, la Iglesia Reformada y una Sinagoga.

Sibiu es, además, una ciudad multicultural donde las minorías rumana, sajona, húngara y romaní han vivido en paz durante siglos.

Sibiu was a multi-faith city. Today, it houses the Orthodox Cathedral, the Evangelical Cathedral, the Roman Catholic Church, the Greco-Catholic Church, the Reformed Church and a Synagogue, all them in the historic center.

Sibiu is also a multicultural city where the romanians, saxons, hungarians and gypsies have lived in peace for centuries.

Lo primero que llama la atención cuando llegas a Sibiu son las ventanas de las casas con formas de ojos: «los ojos de la ciudad». ¡Parece sacado de un cuento!

The first thing you notice when you are in Sibiu is the windows with eye shapes: «the eyes of the city». It seems as if it was taken from a fairytale!

Os recomendamos recorrer el casco histórico y dejaros perder por las callejuelas, subir a Turnul Sfatului y a la Catedral evangélica. ¡Las vistas son inmejorables! También hay tiendas con artesanía típica de la zona que no os podéis perder, como los huevos pintados.

We recommend you to visit the historic center without a map and wander through the narrow streets. Go up to Turnul Sfatului and the Evangelical Cathedral. The views are outstanding! Sibiu tiene una gran oferta cultural y gastronómica. Es una ciudad muy animada donde es imposible aburrirse. Todos los fines de semana organizan algún evento, ya sea deportivo, musical, etc. En el blog hay un enlace donde puedes consultar que eventos se celebrarán en las próximas semanas.
