Montes Apuseni

El día 1 de diciembre  de 1918, Transilvania se unió con Rumanía y así se creó la Rumanía Grande. Desde entonces, el 1 de diciembre es el Día Nacional de Rumanía y, por tanto, es festivo.

Hemos aprovechado estos días de puente para visitar Bucarest, que todavía no lo conocíamos. Pero os lo contaremos más adelante. Hoy os queremos mostrar un lugar que descubrimos hace unas semanas: los Montes Apuseni.

Apuseni o la tierra del Moti posee una atmósfera especial. La mayoría de sus pueblos se encuentran aislados en las montañas, cuyo pico más alto es el Cucurbata Mare con 1.849m. Sus habitantes preservan las tradiciones y la artesanía, donde la madera ocupa un lugar muy importante. Las casas e iglesias de Apuseni poseen una belleza similar a las de Maramures. Aunque lo más característico de este lugar son las cerca de 400 cuevas que alberga.

Cometimos el error de ir sólo a pasar el día y pretender ver dos cuevas muy distantes entre sí. Al final sólo nos dio tiempo a ver una de ellas porque se nos echó la noche encima y la carretera era bastante complicada. Lo mejor, sin duda, es quedarse a dormir allí. Apuseni tiene muchos sitios para visitar, los cuales están muy lejos unos de otros por la mala calidad de las carreteras.

On December 1, 1918, it took place the unification of Transylvania  with the Romanian Kingdom. Since then, the Great Union Day is the national holiday of Romania.

We have spent this long weekend in Bucharest because we haven’t been there before. Anyway, we will tell you in the next post. Today we want to show you a place we discovered a few weeks ago: Apuseni Mountains.

Apuseni or the land of the Moti has a mythic atmosphere of the world’s begginings. Most of their villages are isolated in the top of the mountains, whose highest peak is the Cucurbata Mare, 1,849m. Citizens preserve archaic traditions and crafts, where the wood takes an important place. Houses and churches are as beautiful in their simplicity as those of Maramures. Although the most characteristic feature of this place is their, aproximately, 400 gorges.

We pretended to see two gorges, which were very far away from each other, in one day. Obviously, it was a mistake because the night falls around 16:00 and the road wasn’t the best. So, if you go to Apuseni, stay there a few days. There are many places to visit.

Hacinas en el paso Buces-Vulcan (725m) atravesado por la carretera que hace el enlace entre las localidades de Abrud y Brad. La carretera es bastante estrecha y, como suele pasar cuando vas ajustado de tiempo, nos encontramos con un vehículo especial, enorme, que iba a 2okm/h. Conducía por mitad de la carretera formando una hilera de coches interminable. ¡No creáis que se apartaba! 10 minutos después de poder adelantarlo, nos percatamos de la cantidad de coches parados que había en el carril contrario. Efectivamente, el coche piloto que avisaba de vehículo especial iba muy por delante de éste, demasiado, obligando a todo el mundo a parar. No quiero imaginar la espera que tuvieron que aguantar. ¡Esto sólo pasa aquí!

Haystacks in the Buces-Vulcan passage (725m) between Abrud and Brad. The road is quite narrow and, as so often happens when you are short on time, we came across a special vehicle, huge, which was driving at 20km/h through the middle of the road. It was a traffic jam but don’t think he cared! Once we were able to overtake it (after 10 minutes), we realized about  how many cars were stopped in the opposing lane. In fact, the escort vehicle, that was warning everybody about the special vehicle, was very ahead of it. We would say too much! We do not want to imagine how long they were waiting. It only happens in Romania! 🙂

Nuestro primer destino era la Cueva Glaciar de Scarisoara, con una antigüedad de 4000 años. Hay que bajar muchas escaleras y, a medida que íbamos descendiendo, los peldaños estaban cada vez más y más helados. Había que tener cuidado porque había capas de hielo y era bastante resbaladizo.

Our first destination was the 4000 years old Scarisoara Glacier Cave. We had to go down many stairs and, as we went down towards, the steps were more and more frozen. You should be careful because the surface is icy so you may slip.

Estábamos prácticamente solos y eso lo hacía más especial, si cabe.

We were almost alone so it was more special!

A medida que vayan transcurriendo las semanas, estará más helado y será, todavía, más bonito.

La estampa a la salida de la cueva era preciosa. ¡Vimos vacas y terneras con mantas!

It will be even more beautiful in the next months when the weather is colder.

The countryside was lovely. We saw cows and little calves with blankets! 🙂

El siguiente destino era la Cueva Glaciar de Vartop donde se pueden ver huellas neandertales de hace 62000 años. Sin embargo, cuando llegamos allí, nos informaron de que debíamos de dejar el coche en un punto y seguir andando 4,5km. Ya estaba anocheciendo y teníamos que pensar en volver. Nos dio bastante rabia pero creímos que lo mejor sería regresar más adelante y quedarnos allí varios días; así podríamos visitar más cuevas y hacer alguna ruta por la montaña. Volveremos en primavera, ya que el paisaje debe ser fabuloso en esa época del año.

The next destination was the Vârtop Glacier Cave where you can see Neanderthal 62000 years old footprints. However, when we got there, a man told us we had to walk around 4,5km. The night was falling so we decided to come back home.  It annoyed us a bit but we thought it was the best. We will return in spring, as the scenery must be spectacular at this season. Of course we will stay there a few days, so we can visit more gorges and hiking.
